Kaddu ki sabzi Fasting Recipe


 Kaddu ki Subzi is one of the popular recipes  prepared on Navaratri.It is a perfect subzi for Navaratri Fast. Navaratri food is  incomplete without Kaddu ki Subzi. It is a popular subzi of North India. Learn how to prepare Kaddu ki Subzi in this Navaratri period.

Ingredients of Kaddu ki Subzi

Kaddu [pumpkin] – 500 gms [peel and cubed]
Fenu greek seeds – ½ tsp
Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
Red chillies – 2 [cut into 2]
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Coriander powder – 1 tsp
Asafoetida – 1 pinch
Red chili powder – 1 tsp
Raw mango powder [amchoor] – ½ tsp
Salt to taste
Sugar – ½ tsp
Oil – 1 tbsp
Method of the Preparation of Kaddu ki Sabzi
Heat oil in a pan and add red chillies, fenugreek seeds, asafoetida, cumin seeds and fry for 2 minutes.
Add turmeric powder, coriander powder and red chili powder and mix well.
Add cubed kaddu pieces and salt. Mix well and cover the pan with a lid and cook for 15—20 minutes.
Add sugar and raw mango powder when the pumpkin becomes soft.
Cook another 2 minutes and garnish with coriander leaves.
Pumpkin sabzi is ready.

Potato – 1 [boiled, peeled and chopped]
Sweet potato – 1 [boiled, peeled and chopped]
Cucumber – 1 [peel and chopped]
Water chestnuts – 4 [peeled and chopped]
Curd – 1 ½ cups
Green chillies – 1 [chopped]
Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp [chopped]
Roasted peanuts – 1 tbsp [chopped]
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp [roasted and powdered]
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Senda namak [rock salt] to taste
Sugar to taste
Oil – 1 tsp

Method of the Preparation of Navaratri Raita

Beat the curd well.
Add roasted cumin seeds powder, chopped green chillies, sugar and salt and mix well.
Add all chopped vegetables and mix gentely.
Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds and allow spluttering, then add to Raita.
Navaratri Rita is ready. Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve.

Khus Khus Aloo [Poppy Seeds with Potato] Fasting Recipe

Ingredients for Khus Khus Aloo

Potatoes – 4 [peel and cut into square pieces]
Khus Khus – 1 tbsp
Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Green chillies – 2
Water 1 ½ cups
Dry Red chillies -- 2
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 tbsp

Method of Preparing Khus Khus Aloo

Grind the green chillies and Khus Khus by adding little water and make a fine paste. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan and add the potatoes and fry on low flame until it becomes light brown.
Drain and keep aside. Heat the remaining oil in a pan and add the red dry chillies and turmeric powder.
Add the Khus Khus paste and fry  again on low flame for 5 minutes. Add potatoes, salt and water to the paste and mix nicely and cook for 10-15 minutes on low flame.
Remove from the flame and garnish with coriander leaves and serve.

Sweet Lassi Fasting Recipe

Milk – 2 liter

 Heat the milk in a thick bottom pan on high flame and stirring occasionally. When it stars boiling reduce the fame. Stir continuously. When the milk gets thick, remove it from the fire.

Add cardamom powder and chopped pistachio and mix well.

Ingredients of Broken Wheat Kheer

Broken wheat – 1 cup
Coconut milk – 2 cups
Jaggery --1 cup

Method of Preparing Broken Wheat Kheer

Grind the wheat in mixer grinder coarsely. Heat ghee in a pan and add the broken wheat and sauté it turns light brown color.
Take the fried broken wheat and put in a pressure cooker and add water, then cook 5—8 minutes or till it becomes soft.
Add jiggery and cook again on low flame, stir occasionally. Add coconut milk and cook till the kheer become thick consistency.
Remove from the flame and add cardamom powder.
Wheat Kheer is ready. Garnish with cashew nuts and serve.

Ingredients for Puri Recipe

Wheat flour – 2 ½ cups
Water – 2/3 cup
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

Method of Preparing Puri

Mix salt and flour and add the water slowly. Use one hand to mix the flour with water in a rotating motion till the dough becomes elastic and smooth.
Cover the dough with a wet towel and keep aside for 30 minutes.
Make small balls and dip in oil and rollout 4 inches round. Repeat the same process and make all puris.
Fry the puris in very hot oil. Put one puri immediately and start flickering hot oil over the top of it.
The puri will swell up like a ball Fry the both side until golden brown.
Drain the puris and put on kitchen towel.
Serve hot with Aloo tomato curry or kadhu curry.

Maida – 2 cups
Green peas – 2 cups [crushed]

Method of the preparing of Mattar Karanjis

Mix the maida salt and  2 tbsp of oil and knead to make stiff dough and cover with a wet cloth and keep aside.
Heat oil in a pan and put the mustard seeds when mustard seeds start spluttering, add chopped green chilies, crushed green peas, salt and chopped coriander leaves.
Mix well and cook for 5—8 minutes and put off the flame.
Divide the dough into small equal sized balls. Rollout round shaped puris of 3 inches. Place 2 tsp of filling on one half of puri and wet the edges with fingers and fold over. Lightly press to seal.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the Karanjis until crisp and golden brown.
Drain excess oil on kitchen towel.
Serve hot.

Aloo Chaat Holi Recipe

Potatoes – 4 [peel and cut into square pieces]

Place the fried potatoes in a bowl and add chopped onion, diced tomatoes, red chili powder, chat masala, cumin seeds powder, pepper powder and salt.
Add tamarind chutney, green chutney over the aloo chaat. Aloo chat is ready.

Milk – 1 liter
Water – 2 cups
Sugar – ½ cup
Aniseeds – 1 tsp

A few Saffron strands
Pepper corns – 8

Watermelon seeds – 1 tbsp
Rose petals – ½ cup
Poppy seeds – 2 tsp

Method of Preparation of Thandai

Soak the almonds, aniseeds, Poppy seeds, water melon seeds and rose petals in 2 cups of water.
Boil the milk and allow it to cool.
Grind the soaked ingredients in a mixer grinder to a smooth paste. Add the water into the paste and mix well. Strain it through muslin strainer.
Extract the liquid into a bowl and add the pepper corns, sugar, and saffron and cardamom powder. Mix well
Add into the boiled milk and blend nicely.
Thandai is ready. Chill and serve.

Mal Pua Holi Recipe

Ingredients for Mal Pua

 Maida [plain flour] – ½ cup
Semolina [suji] – ½ cup
Cardamom – 5 [powdered]
Sugar – 1 cup
Oil for frying

Method of Preparing Mal Pua

Boil the milk on low flame until it becomes thick and pink in colour. Remove from the flame and keep aside.
Roast the semolina [suji] till light brown. Add cardamom powder and   milk along with maida and mix gently.  It should be a smooth batter.
Heat the oil. Pour the batter with a round shaped serving spoon and make small pan cakes. Take care that it does not become hard and crisp.
Make sugar syrup of 1 thread consistency and dip the malpuas in the sugar syrup.
Mal pua is ready to serve.

Ingredients for Poodas

Wheat flour – 2 cups
 Sugar – 1 cup
Yogurt – ½ cup

Method of  Preparing Meeta Holi Poodas

Mix all the ingredients into thick dough by adding little water. Cover and keep aside for2 hours. Make small oval shaped balls and deep fry in hot oil on low flame until golden brown.

For Puris

Wheat flour – 1 cup
Maida [plain flour] – 2 cups
Oil – ¼ cup
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Ajwain seeds – 1 tsp
Chili powder – 1 ½ tsp
Turmeric powder -- ¼ tsp
Asafetida – ¼ tsp
Oil for deep frying
Salt to taste

For Green Chutney

Coriander leaves – ½ cup
Green chillies – 2
Lemon juice – 2 tsp
Onion – 1
Salt to taste

For Sweet Chutney

Tamarind Juice – 2 tbsp
Dates – 4
Red chili powder
Salt to taste

For Curd Mix

Curd – 3 ½ cups
Sugar – 3 tbsp
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp [roasted and powdered]
Salt to taste
Potatoes – 2 [boiled]
Chat powder – 1 tsp

Method of Preparation of Chat paprii

Mix wheat flour, maida, ajwain seeds, cumin seeds, ¼ cup oil, chili powder, turmeric powder, asafetida and salt.
Knead a little hard dough by adding sufficient water. Roll out very small even sized puris and deep fry till golden brown.  Keep aside.
  Grind the coriander leaves, green chilies, onion and salt in a mixer and mix with lemon juice.
 Make the sweet chutney by boiling the dates in tamarind juice and little water, till they are cooked and grind in a mixer grinder.
Mix the sugar and salt in curd and beat nicely. Add Roasted cumin seeds.
Peel and coarsely mash the potatoes and add salt and mix ½ tsp chat powder. While serving lightly crush the puris add mashed potatoes. Add curd mix, green chutney and red sweet chutney over it.
Sprinkle little red chili powder and chat powder.
Papri chat is ready to serve.

Maida [plain flour] – 2 cups
Rice flour- 1 cup
Badam paste – ½ cup
Milk – 100 ml
Saffron – 1 gm
Sugar-- 2 cups
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Oil for deep frying
 Water – ½ cup
Ghee – 20 ml

Method of Preparing Badam Puri

Mix maida, rice flour, badam paste and milk to knead smooth dough. Heat water in a pan and add cardamom powder and saffron. Stir it to make sugar syrup.
Make small balls from the dough and rollout small puris, apply ghee on the puri and stack one on the top of the other with three puris in each stack. Roll and cut each stack into small pieces.
Roll again and make round shape and deep fry until golden brown.
Drain and put the puris into sugar syrup. Leave it for 8—10 minutes. Badam puri is ready to serve.

Maida [plain flour] – 2 cups
Ajwain– 1 tsp
Salt to taste
 Warm Oil – 2 tbsp

Method of Preparing Matti

Add warm oil and salt to the flour and mix well. Add sufficient water and make smooth dough. Make small thin rounds on your palm and prick both sides with fork or knife. Allow to dry for 10 minutes.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the Matties, till it become pale golden color. Drain on kitchen paper and allow to cool.  Fill in an air tight container.
Enjoy Matti with tea or coffee.

Kanji Ke Vade Holi Recipe

Ingredients of Kanji Ke Vade

Urad dal – ½ kg
Rai – 1 tsp [grounded]
Red chilies – 2 [pounded]
 Pieces of afoetida [hing] – 2
Salt to taste
Water—3 cups
Dry red chilies –3

Method of Preparing Kanji Ke Vade

Soak Urad dal 3—4 hours. Grind to make fine paste.  Heat oil in a pan, wet your palms and put little portion of mixture on to your wet palm and flatten it. Let it slide one by one on to the hot oil.
Deep fry the vadas till golden brown. Put a griddle on the flame and put few hing pieces on it. Take an earthen pot and turn it upside down on the griddle, so the hing starts emitting an aroma.
 Take it off the fire and  fill it with warm water. Mix the red chili powder, rai, red chillies and salt and add to the water.
Put the vadas into the pot and cover with a muslin cloth and tie it. Keep this vada pot in the sun, during the day time for 7-8 days.

Lauki – 3 cups [grated]
Khoya – 1 cup
Milk – 1 ½ litre

Method of Preparing Lauki Burfi Recipe

Boiled the milk in a thick bottomed pan and add the grated lauki, till the lauki become soft. Add the khoya, sugar and color.
Stir continuously, when the froth starts leaving the side of the vessel, transfer it in a pre greased plate.
Add cardamom and allow to cool.  Cut into pieces
Lauki burfi is ready for serve.

Aloo Kachori Holi Recipe



Aloo kachori is a famous recipe in North India.  Learn how to make Aloo kachori in easy way for this Holi festival.

Ingredients for Aloo Kachorie

Potatoes – 500 gms
Green chilies – 3
Cardamom seeds – 1 tsp
Lemon juice – 2 tsp
Arrow root  Powder – 100 gms
Coconut – 1 cup [grated]
Salt to taste
Oil for deep frying

Method of Preparing Aloo Kachori

Boil, peel and mash the potatoes well, mix it with 50 gms arrow root and salt and knead it into stiff dough.
For the filling, mix the grated coconut with chopped green chilies, salt, lemon juice and crushed cardamom seeds.
Take a small portion of the dough and pat between the palms, and fill with 1 tsp of coconut mixture and give the shape of kachori.
Repeat the process and make all kachories.
Heat oil I n a pan and deep fry the kachories until golden brown.
Serve hot with Tamarind chutney or green chutne

Ingredients for Kichadi

Broken wheat – 1 cup
Yellow Moog – ¼ cup
Green chillies –2[cut into 2]
Cumin seeds— ½ tsp
Turmeric Powder— ¼ tsp
Asafoetida— ¼ tsp
Oil – 2 tsp
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing Kichdi for diabetic

Soak the whet in water for 2 hours. Heat the oil in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds, green chilies, and asafoetida. When the cumin seeds crackle, add the wheat and moog dal and sauté for 3-4 minutes.

Add turmeric powder, salt and sufficient water and pressure cook for 10—15 minutes on low flame until the wheat is cooked.

Serve hot.

Tomato Shorba Healthy Diabetic Drink



Ingredients for Tomato Shorba

Masoor Dal – 1 tsp
Pepper – ½ tsp
Kashmiri Red Chilies – 2
Coriander seeds – 1 tsp
Chana dal – ½ tsp
Cumin seeds – 1tsp
Curry leaves – 2 strings
Tomatoes – 4 [pureed]
 Arahar dal [toovar dal] cooked – ½ cup
Lemon Juice – 1 tsp
Oil – 2 tsp
Chili powder – ¼ tsp
Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp [chopped]
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing Masala

Roast the pepper, ½ cumin seeds, Kashmiri red chilies, coriander seeds,  curry leaves 1 string, chana dal and masoor dal ingredients in a pan, on medium flame for 5 minutes and keep aside. When it cool blend in a mixer and make a fine powder.

Method of Preparing Tomato Shorba

Heat oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds, when cumin seeds crackle add the curry leaves, tomato puree, chili powder, 2 cups of water, salt to taste and prepared masala. Mix well and bring to boil for 5 –7 minutes.
Remove from the flame and add lemon juice. Serve hot garnished with coriander.

Ragi flour – 1 cup
Water – 2 cups
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing Ragi Balls for Diabetics

Heat the water with salt in a wide opening vessel.  When it starts to boil add the ragi flour slowly and stirring continuously.   Cook the flour for 10 minutes.
Remove from the heat and mix well, taking care to remove all lumps. When the mixture is still warm, applies some water to hands and shapes the cooked flour into big balls.

Moog dal [yellow dal] – 1 cup [soaked in water for 2 hours]
Green chillies – 5
Asafoetida -- 1 pinch
Coriander leaves – 1 tbsp [chopped]
Coriander seeds -- 1 tsp [crushed]
Cumin seeds – 1 tsp [roasted and powdered]
Salt to taste
Oil for frying

Method of Preparing Moog Dal Pakore

Drain the moog dal and gind coarsely in mixer grinder. Mix all the ingredients except oil.
Heat oil in a pan and drop pakores with wet hand or a spoon.
Fry on medium flame until crisp and golden brown. Drain and place into a tissue paper.
Serve hot with green chutney

Add enough water to make a thick batter. Heat the oil in a pan. Dip the vegetables in the batter and deep fry in hot oil on medium flame until golden brown.

Brown barley – 1 cup
White stock-- 2 cups
Carrot –1 [chopped]

Method of Preparing Barley soup

Cook barley, in white stock for 1  hour on low flame.  Add chopped vegetables and cook for further 20 minutes.
Sieve and reheat in a pan with milk and butter. Add salt and pepper Stir gently and transfer into soup bowls and garnished with chopped parsley leaves.

NamakPara Holi Recipe

Namakpara is the traditional Indian snack. Learn, how to make easy Namakpara in this Holi festival.

Ingredients for NamakPara

Flour [maida] – 1 cup
Semolina [sooji] – ½ cup
Warm Ghee or Refined Oil – 2 tbsp
Curd Beaten – 1 tbsp
Ajwain – 1 tsp
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing NamakPara

Mix flour, ajwain, salt and warm ghee or refined oil. Add enough water and knead tight dough. Cover this dough with a wet cloth for 20 minutes.
Make balls from the dough and roll them into ½ inch thick chapattis. Now with the helped knife cut vertically and then into horizontally to get diamond shaped strips.
Heat oil in a pan and fry the diamond shaped strips on medium flame, till they are crisp and golden brown.
Drain out the excess oil and place them in kitchen towel. Fry all the strips in the same way. Allow to cool and store in an air tight container.
It can be stored for 2-3 weeks.

Ingredients for Bhang Tandai

Milk – 1 cup
Almond – 1 tbsp
Sugar – 1 ½ cups
Melon seeds – ½ tsp [dried and skinned]
Poppy seeds – ½ tsp
Ani seeds – ½ tsp
Pepper corns – 1 tsp
Bhang Leaves – ½ cup
Cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Water – 1 ½ liter
Fresh rose petals – ¼ cup

Method of Preparing Bhang Tandai

Soak all the dry ingredients in a2 cups of water for 2 hours. And grind in a mixer grinder to make a fine paste. Put ½ liter water and mix the sugar in it.
Add the remaining water into the paste and strain with a muslin strainer to extract the liquid in a bowl, till the residue become dry
Add the milk into the strained mixture. Mix sugar syrup and cardamom powder. Garnish with chopped almonds and rose petals
Chill before serving.

Ingredients for Ragi Popcorn

Ragi – ½ kg
Jaggery – 100 gms
Dry coconut –100 gms
Milk or water

Method of Preparing Ragi Popcorn

Clean and roast the ragi in a pan without oil, until it popup like popcorn. Grind the roasted ragi in a mixer grinder.
Grate dry coconut and jiggery. Add the grated jiggery and coconut into the ragi powder and mix well.
It can be stored in an airtight container for a month.
Whenever required take ½ cup of ragi mix and add water or milk. Mix well and serve

Ragi – 100 gms
Wheat – 50 gms
Chick Pea – 50 gms
Barley – 10 gms
Maize – 10 gms
Almond – 15 gms
Cashew nuts – 10 gms
Cardamom Powder – ¼ tsp
Poppy seeds – 10 gms

Method of Preparing Ragi Health Drink

Roast all the ingredients except cardamom without oil. Powder these in mixer grinder. Add the cardamom powder and mix well. Fill in a air tight container.  This powder can be used for a month.
Whenever required, mix 2 spoonfuls of ragi mix powder in a glass of water and boil. Add ½ glass of milk and sugar [optional] to taste.
This Ragi mix drink is very healthy and nutritious.

Ingredients for Fenugreek leaves with Onion

Fenugreek leaves – ½ kg [chopped]
Onions – 4 [chopped]
Green chilies – 4 [split into 2]
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Salt to taste
Oil – 2 tbsp

Method of Preparing Fenugreek Leaves with Onion

Heat oil in a pan and add chopped onions and green chilies. Fry for 5 minutes, add turmeric powder, chopped fenugreek leaves and salt to taste.
Mix well and cover the pan with a lid. Cook for 10-15 minutes on low flame. Stir in between.  Remove from the flame and serve with chapatti or rice

Ragi Onion Dosa Diabetic Recipe



Ingredients for Ragi Onion Dosa

Ragi Flour – 2 cups
Rice flour – ½ cup
Curd – ½ cup
Onions – 2 [chopped]
Green chilies – 3 [chopped]
Curry leaves – 1 string
Salt to taste

For the Tempering

Oil – 2 tsp
Asafoetida – 1 pinch
Curry leaves – 1 string
Mustard seeds – 1 tsp

Method of Preparing Ragi Onion Dosa

Mix ragi flour with rice flour, salt, curd chopped green chilies, chopped onions, curry leaves. Add sufficient water to make the batter of pouring consistency.
Heat oil and fry mustard seeds, curry leaves and asafoetida. When the mustard seeds crackle, add to the batter and mix well. Heat dosa pan and grease lightly with oil and pour a ladle full of batter. Spread smoothly to make a thin dosa.
Pour 1 tsp of oil along their sides of dosa while cooking. Cook on one side.  When dosa become crispy, remove from the pan And serve hot with coconut chutney

RagiFlour – 2 cups
Black gram – ½ cup
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing Ragi Dosa & Idly

Soak black gram dal in water for – 2 hours. Grind the dal in mixer grinder by adding enough water. Add ragi flour and salt. The consistency of the batter should be thick. Keep aside 4—5 hours for fermentation. Stir it with ladle. We can prepare idly and dosa with this batter.

Fenugreek dosa Diabetic Recipe

Ingredients for Fenugreek Dosa

Parboiled rice – 2 cup[s
Raw rice – 1 cup
Urad dal – ½ cup
Fenugreek seeds – ½ cup
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing of Fenugreek dosa

Soak all the ingredients in water except salt for 6 hours. Grind all together to a fine paste. Add salt and mix well. Ferment it for at least 7-8 hours.
Heat dosa tawa and wipe it with oil. Mix the batter with little water and make it slightlythinner. Pour 1 big ladle of batter in the tawa and spread it. Pour 1 tsp of oil around the corner of the dosa. After 2 minutes, flip it over and cook the other side. Remove the dosa and serve hot with onion chutney.

How to make Bitter Gourd [Karela] Pachadi for Diabetics



Ingredients for Bitter Gourd

Bitter Gourd – 3 [sliced]
Thick Yogurt – 1 cup
Green Chilies – 4
Mustard Seeds – 2 tsp
Coconut – 1/2 cup [grated]
Curry Leaves – 2 springs
Dried Red chilli – 1
Oil – 2 tbsp

Method of Preparing Bitter Gourd Pachadi

Heat oil in a pan and fry the sliced bitter gourd till crisp and remove from the oil.
Grind the grated coconut with green chilies and  1 tsp of mustard seeds, and keep aside.
Heat I tsp of oil in a pan and add dried red chilli, remaining mustard seeds, and curry leaves and fry for 2 minutes. Reduce the flame and add blended yogurt and coconut paste. Keep stirring.  Then add the fried bitter gourd slices and salt. Mix well and remove from the fire and serve hot.

Onion – 3 [chopped]
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
Chili powder – 1 tsp
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing Bitter gourd with Onion

Heat oil in pan and add chopped onion and fry for 5 minutes. Add turmeric powder, chili powder and mix. Add bitter gourd pieces and salt to taste. Mix well and cover the pan with a lid and cook for 10—15 minutes on medium flame. Stir in between.
Remove the cover and fry the bitter gourd low flame for 5 minutes. Serve with curd rice or chapatti

Ingredients for Bitter Gourd Juice

Bitter gourd – 2
Lemon – 1
Salt to taste

Method of Preparing Bitter Gourd juice

Wash the bitter gourds and cut into small pieces.  Soak the bitter gourd pieces in water and add little salt for 10 minutes.  Drain the pieces and grind in mixer grinder by adding enough water. Remove the fibers by passing the juice through sieve. Add lemon juice and serve.

Dahi Bhalla Holi Recipe


The festival of holi is a festival of colors and the festival of delicious food. The spring festival of holi brings lot of joy.  During the festival season some special dishes are prepared in every Indian home. Dahl bhalla is very tasty and lips-smacking food. Just try.
Bhalla paste

Ingredients for Bhallas

Cumin seeds – 1 tsp
Urad dal [lentils] – 1 cup
Ginger – 1 piece [chopped]
Green chilies – 3 [chopped]
Salt to taste
Oil for frying

Ingredients for Curd Mixture

Thick Curd – 2 cups [beaten]
Sugar – 1 tsp
Frying of Bhalla
Salt to taste
Roasted Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp
Rock Salt – ½ tsp
Pepper Powder – ½ tsp

Ingredients for Garnishing

Chili powder – 1 pinch
Green chilies – 5 gms [julienned]
Ginger – 5 gms [julienned]
Coriander Leaves – 5 gms [chopped]
Tamarind chutney – 2 tbsp

Method of Preparing Dahi Bhalla

Soak the urad dal in water for 2 hours. Drain and grind into a fine paste. Add cumin seeds, green chilies, salt and ginger. Mix well and shape into small balls and make a hole in the centre of the ball with the thump

Heat oil in a pan and fry the balls, a few at a time. Fry till golden brown. Remove and drain   on paper towels.
Soak the prepared balls in lukewarm water till they are soft. Add sugar, cumin seeds, rock salt, pepper powder to the beaten curd and mix well.

 Remove the bhallas from the water and squeeze out excess water and dip into the curd mixture.Keep aside for 10 minutes.


Serve chilled, garnished with chopped ginger, green chilies and coriander leaves, cumin seeds powder, tamarind chutney and chili powder.

Shakarpara Holi Recipe


Here is a recipe for shakarpara, it is very tasty and easy to prepare.  It is a sugar coated deep fried flour pieces. It can be stored for 2-3 weeks in air tight container.

Ingredients for Sharkarpara

Flour – 500 gms
Ghee—100 gms
Baking powder – 1 ½ tsp
Oil for frying
Sugar – 300 gms
Water – 100 ml

Method of Preparing Shakarpara

Sieve the flour and baking powder and mix with ghee. Add enough water and knead into stiff dough. Cover and keep aside for 10 minutes. . Divide the dough into 3 long rolls. Roll each portion into ½ inch thickness and cut with knife into 1/2 inch pieces. Heat oil in a pan and fry the pieces in hot oil on medium flame until golden brown.

Drain them in an absorbing kitchen towel. Ina pan boil the water and sugar, till it reaches one string consistency. Remove the sugar syrup from the fire and add the fried pare altogether and coat the pare evenly with the help of a flat spoon. Take them out and let them dry for a while. Store in an airtight container.

Gujiya Holi Recipe



Gujiya is a famous sweet dish of north India. It is mostly prepared during holi. Gujiya is a scrumptious sweet dish prepared using maida and Khoya. It can be used as sweet dish  as well as snacks. It can be stored for longer time. Try  to  prepare gujiya in this easy way.

Ingredients for Gujiya

Khoya making

Maida [plain flour] – 500 gms
Ghee 2 tsp
Khoya – 250 gms
Sooji [semolina] – 1 tbsp
Dry coconut – 50 gms [grated]
Green cardamom powder – 1 tsp
Almonds – 25 gms[chopped]
Cashew nuts – 25 gms [chopped]
Raisins – 25 gms
Sugar – 150 gms [powdered]
Oil for deep frying

How to make Gujiya 

Sieve the flour and add 2 tbsp of warm oil to it. Mix it with your fingers. Add little warm water and knead to make tight dough. Cover the dough with a damp cloth and keep aside
.
Heat ghee in a pan and add khoya and fry for 5 minutes .Add sooji and fry for another 5 minutes Remove from the flame and mix dry coconut powder, cardamom powder, raisins, chopped almonds, chopped cashew nuts and sugar powder. Allow to cool
.
Divide the maida dough into small balls and rollout  thin rotis. 

Fill the rotis with khoya mixture and seal the gujiyas into a half moon shape, twisting the edges inwards.  [You can also use gujiya moulds] Now fry the gujiyas on medium heat until they are evenly brown.
Serve as a snack
